About

I'm a landscape photographer based near Minneapolis, Minnesota. I make images locally and through my travels that try to capture the feeling of solitude and quiet that I experience when out in nature. I'm especially drawn to rugged landscapes where I can see across vast distances from mountain to sea, such as Scotland and Iceland. I often joke that my favorite places contain more sheep than people. I also spend a lot of time on the "North Shore" of Minnesota along Lake Superior which has a stunning rocky shoreline, extensive forests, and icy winters.

Photography is a way to focus on what matters to me, to quiet my busy mind and live in the moment. I love sharing my perspective and creative expression with others, and I hope you enjoy the images I've curated here.

My Photography Journey

I've been interested in photography for as long as I can remember. In elementary school, I begged my parents to drive me around so I could photograph horses, and earned a pile of participation ribbons for submitting the collection to a school art contest. I was incredibly lucky to be able to travel around the US frequently with my family while growing up, and always had a camera in hand. Landscapes and wildlife have always been my focus, with people rarely featuring intentionally in any snapshot. The diversity of the landscapes I saw and hiked through certainly is a big influence on my photography today, as I find myself excited by a wide array of subjects.

I don't recall much about my first cameras, other than that I did start with film (and have no desire to return to it, despite the current trendiness). I received my first DSLR as a wedding gift from my mother-in-law after she noticed my interest in hers.

It wasn't until well into my adult years, however, that I became truly obsessed with composition, light, and the art of photography. Travel became less about snapshots of the locations we visited, and more about designing the entire trip around capturing images.

Although my local area in Minnesota doesn't lend itself well to wide landscape vistas, I do frequent my local woodlands and prairies to try to capture the gorgeous details that nature provides.

About This Website

My day job is as a software developer, so although I know that there are many services out there that offer fantastic websites for photographers, I couldn't help but build this myself. There are some advantages - I have full creative control, and I can keep my costs very low. The downside is that if there is an issue, I am likely responsible. If you experience any problems using this site please contact me! I'm also happy to share more about the technical details if you're curious. Payment processing is handled securely through Stripe.
